Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury was in full form when he blasted Kerala CPI-M for misrepresenting his speech and making references on him for dragging the party towards Congress.
While clarifying at the state conference, Yechury pin-pointed two youth leaders in Kerala by their name, AN Shamseer and Mohammed Riyas, for making references in the discussion by dragging his name.
Yechury retaliated the criticism by just telling them that “CPI-M is not what you perceive in Kerala. It’s not the Communist Party of Kerala Marxist. I request the comrades in Kerala to go through the party programmes and educate yourself about the party doctrines. I never stated that CPI-M should align with Congress. We can’t take political line based on one state or one group. What you have discussed is not what I’ve stated. I’m sorry to say that you have misrepresented my statements.” Yechury fired the salvo with precision.
Earlier, the leaders who spoke on the political resolution criticised Yechury for dragging the party towards the Congress camp and termed his attempts suicidal. Kerala united against his move for a UPA model Congress front for countering the Narendra Modi-led NDA.
But Yechury smartly diffused Kerala move with clarity and slammed Kerala leaders on their soil.
His remarks shocked Kerala leaders as they were unprepared for it.
“He (Yechury) just banged us at the right moment and the right context. The youth leaders who criticised him never had studied the party documents. Their criticism was based on newspaper reports. Yechury has proved that he is not going yield to the pressure tactics of Kerala and he knows how to tackle them,” a senior leader of the Pinarayi Vijayan-camp told India Today.
