A month after Lashkar Terrorist escaped after killing two cops, a similar orchestrated plan to escape from the clutches of Jammu Kashmir police failed when the burqa clad militant identified as Mushtaq Chopan was killed in a grenade attack while trying to flee. Ironically the grenade thrown to aid the escape, in turn claimed his life.
At around 12:30 on monday afternoon, shortly before the grenade attack, two women met Mushtaq who was in police lock up of Police Station Tral. It is now suspected that the women may have passed on the Burqa.
The DGP S P Vaid tweeted “A terrorist Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan died in grenade explosion when challenged by sentry while trying to escape from Police Station Tral.”
The grenade exploded inside the station near by him resulting into death of the said terrorist and injury to one Constable Mehraj Din.
A Magisterial enquiry has been initiated under Sec 176 CrPC, while the Jammu Kashmir Police has launched its own enquiry to look into the lapse. Amit Kumar, DIG South Kashmir, told India Today,”We are probing into the incident. This is a security lapse. We are trying to ascertain how the burqa reached the militant in custody.”
Sources say as an up-gradation, police will be soon installing CCTV camera’s inside police stations in South Kashmir known to be hotbed of militancy.
