In a shocking incident, an irate mob today dragged out two rape accused from a police station in Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh and beat them to death.
The two accused, now dead, have been identified as Sanjay Sabar, 30 and Jagadish Lohar, 25, migrant laborers from neighboring Assam.
The two were allegedly involved in the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl from Namgo Village under Wakro circle in Arunachal Pradesh. She had been missing since February 12. Five days later, her naked body, with the head severed, was recovered near a tea garden.
Sabor and Lohar were arrested in this connection and, according to police sources, they had confessed to the crime. The killing of rape accused by the mob is second such incident in the Northeast in last three years.
In May 2015, an alleged rapist, suspected to be an illegal Bangladeshi migrant, was beaten to death after being pulled out of a jail by a mob at Dimapur in Nagaland.
Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Pema Khandu condemned the incident.
“It’s an unfortunate incident. I have placed three officers on suspension and ordered for magisterial inquiry. The SP has been transferred,” he told India Today.
